Fluoride is it healthy or harmful?
Fluoride has proven to be a very toxic substance over the
years. “In terms of acute toxicity, fluoride is more toxic than lead, but
slightly less toxic than arsenic. This is why fluoride has long been used in
rodenticides and pesticides to kill pests like rats and insects. It is also why
accidents involving over-ingestion of fluoridated dental products can cause
serious poisoning incidents, including death.” The real dilemma is the use of
fluoride in the dentistry field. The
dosage of fluoride is extremely important; if fluoride is regularly consumed
over an extended period of time can cause adverse effects. The highest dosages
of fluoride are going to bottle fed babies. “Because of their sole reliance on
liquids for their food intake, infants consuming formula made with fluoridated
water have the highest exposure to fluoride, by bodyweight, in the population.”
Due to this highly dangerous situation many dental researchers recommend new
parents to not use fluorinated water when adding to formula.
There are four primary concerns with fluoride that readily
impact human health and safety. The first concern is that current safety standards only protect against most obvious forms of harm. The second concern is the current safe daily dose for fluoride fails to withstand scrutiny. The third concern is that some people are particularly susceptible to fluoride toxicity and the final concern is that the margin between the toxic and therapeutic does is very narrow.
“Fluoride
is the only chemical added to water for the purpose of medical treatment. The FDA classifies fluoride as a drug
when used to prevent or mitigate disease. As a matter of basic logic, adding
fluoride to water for the sole purpose of preventing tooth decay is a form of
medical treatment. All other water treatment chemicals are added to improve the
water’s quality or safety, which fluoride does not do.” When it comes to the
question is fluoride healthy or harmful? I personally think it is very harmful,
and was unaware of how harmful fluoride it actually is. This toxin can
ultimately destroy our human health. Fluoride is so prevalent in our everyday
life that we would assume since it would be safe for us.
